Evelyn C. Cole



Mrs. Evelyn Ruth Civils Cole, 93, died Sunday, December 10, 2017. Born in Jones County, May 12, 1924, she was the daughter of George Clinton and Mamie Gilbert Civils. Following graduation from Trenton High School, events in life led Evelyn to Greene County where she established her home and resided the majority of her adult life. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, known as “Granny”, and cherished those roles both providing, encouraging and supporting her family. A lady of strong Christian faith, she was a member of Mt. Herman UMC and always seized the opportunity to help others in her church and community.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husbands, Roy Hooker Thomas, Jr. , Andrew Linwood Murphrey, and William Dee Cole. Additionally, a sister Pearline Cooke, precedes her in death.

Surviving are her sons, Roy Hooker Thomas III and wife, Linda of Greensboro, Andrew “Andy” Linwood Murphrey, Jr and wife, Brenda of Farmville, and William Everette Murphrey and wife, Cindy of Farmville; grandchildren, Jason Thomas, Andrea Tew, Chancey Murphrey, and Mayce Murphrey; and great-grandchildren, Darren Murray, Robert Cox, Sage Stallings, and Blake Nottingham.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Reverends Sam Loy officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery.
